Anthony Graham Sutton, 49, is being housed at the Tamworth Correctional Centre after detectives swooped on Friday as part of a two-month investigation into the alleged supply of drugs.
In Tamworth Local Court yesterday, solicitor Fiona Hadlington said another lawyer would be taking over the case but the allegedly supply could be a DPP matter because of the amount of drugs.
Crown prosecutor Colin Dalrymple said the DPP could prosecute the case but not until it had considered the brief of evidence.
Sutton has been in custody since he was arrested without incident on Friday afternoon and charged with eight separate offences.
He was subsequently refused bail in an out-of-sessions bail hearing in Tamworth Local Court on Saturday.
Sutton made no application for a fresh release yesterday and it was formally refused by Magistrate Michael Holmes, who has ordered a brief of evidence into the case.
Sutton will remain behind bars.
