The Cowboys’ 56-10 win should have called for celebration, but the rugby league club was left reeling after
merchandise worth almost $5000 was taken.
On Thursday night front rollers were jemmied open and padlocks cut bfore nine cartons of tinned mid-strength beer was taken.
The first break-in was discovered on Friday, police notified and the broken doors and shutters fixed, but to no avail.
That night the thieves returned meaning business.
With power tools and wearing gloves, they essentially took the wall off one side of the canteen and walked away with everything else.
All said the club is short about 25 cartons of XXXX Gold cans, 13 cartons of mixed mid-strength spirit cans, a few cartons of soft drinks, chips, pies and chocolates.
They even took Cowboys dress shirts and jackets, not to mention the game balls.
The only item they didn’t take was the Diet Coke.
President Bruce Henry was absolutely livid on Saturday.
“You bust your arse all year for the club and then someone does this,” Henry said.
“The club battles along as it is.”
Police forensics went over the site on Saturday morning, with fingerprint dust still evident during the game.
“Police are investigating,” Henry said on Sunday afternoon.
“But so far I have heard nothing.
“I think they will get caught.”
The win over the Manilla Tigers keeps the Cowboys in second place behind Kootingal, a month before the finals.
