It’s a blast from the past at the Party in the Paddock at the Quirindi Rural Heritage Village on Saturday, all in the name of raising funds for children with special needs at the town’s four schools.
The day of old-fashioned family fun will also feature a shearer- and-sheila tag relay, sheaf tossing, gumboot throwing, egg and spoon races, miniature train rides and the ultimate group competition, a tug-o-war.
And after all that activity, refuel and recharge the batteries with a real Aussie menu featuring a sausage sizzle, spit lamb, lamingtons, damper, Anzac biscuits and homemade lemonade.
Chairman of Quirindi’s Friends of Children with Special Needs, Nic Hoy, said each of the local schools would share in the funds to provide more resources for their special needs students.
Last year, a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party raised $12,000 for the cause and organisers are hoping to build on that.
“This year we have stepped it up a gear and are working towards a much bigger event,” group secretary Maryellen Scanlon said.
“It’s been inspirational to see the changes in local children’s lives from last year’s fundraising, so we are aiming for another fun-filled event, with everyone invited for what should be a great day.”
Party in the Paddock is from 10am to 3pm this Saturday at the heritage village, about 3km out of Quirindi on the Gunnedah Rd.
