The EPA announced late yesterday it had become aware of the incident after receiving a call from a community member who reported that there were dead birds in the area of the Bingara showground in early July and again this week.
Officers visited the site on Tuesday and have taken samples for analysis to try and identify the cause of death.
But it said that, disappointingly, birds were still dying and more had been reported Wednesday.
It has appealed to anyone with information that could assist the investigation to contact the EPA’s Environment Line on 131 555.
