The Lisles, the highly strung and highly talented duo from the last series of My Kitchen Rules, have launched a new venture – The Walcha Kitchen – a series of intimate cooking classes held at their picturesque homestead.
It’s been a frantic few months for both women since the end of the hugely popular show, with Kathy working on her own food range and Anna preparing to get married.
“Looking back, it (MKR) was an absolutely fantastic experience,” Kathy said.
“I learned so much about cooking and I realised it was where my passion lay.”
She was still grappling with the duo’s controversial exit from the show at the hands of eventual winners Bree and Jessica.
“You’ve got to accept the decision from the judges and Channel 7 but I personally feel we should have gone on,” Kathy said.
“Our deboned quail was a brilliant dish and to be beaten by butter chicken out of a pressure cooker was a bit strange.
“It was really devastating ... we were just hitting our straps. We were as shocked as all the other contestants.”
She also rejected claims she was a “doormat” for Anna in the series, despite a number of terse moments on air.
“This was always Anna’s dream, I was only her sous chef,” Kathy said.
“She decided what was going on the plate and I was there to be given orders.”
The Lisles remain firm friends with many of the contestants and Anna has invited a number of them to her wedding in Walcha in October.
Anna is currently working as a restaurant reviewer in Sydney but will fly back every two weeks for the cooking classes, which start on August 8.
The classes will include Asian curries, three-course dinner parties, pastry making and cooking game meats.
In addition to the Walcha classes, the duo also hopes to offer some private classes in Sydney and eventually co-author a cookbook.
