Police said the 44-year-old man was working to erect a fence on a property off the Limbri-Weabonga Rd yesterday morning before the accident occurred. It’s understood the man was using a post hole digger when his leg became caught, severing the limb just before 10.30am.
Emergency services were activated immediately but extremely difficult terrain made the site difficult to access.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked and was first on scene, after which the crew released the man.
Walcha SES, police and ambulance rescue paramedics tried to stabilise the man at the scene before he was airlifted in a critical condition to Tamworth hospital. Police confirmed the man was placed in intensive care but died yesterday afternoon.
WorkCover is investigating and police will prepare a report for the coroner.
