As the council has recently explained, Tamworth’s population is set to grow by 70,000 by 2034.
These future sporting facilities are not only smart but necessary to service the needs of this ever growing major centre.
I was absolutely thrilled to see that an aquatic centre is also part of the master plan moving forward.
The area needs these world-class facilities to not only nurture our junior sporting talent but cater for a large section of the community (a lot of them elderly) that use these facilities.
Already we have a young girl swimming in the National Swimming Championships next week.
Eleven-year-old Mikaela Short is going into these championships with the fastest qualifying time for her age.
Like the numerous hockey Olympians that Tamworth has produced due to the facilities, imagine how many more champion young swimmers we could produce with a world-class aquatic centre?
Tamworth’s current swimming facilities must be very valuable real estate and surely would go a long way to funding a facility of such standard.
Once again congratulations to Tamworth Regional Council to having the foresight to look into the future.
