TAMWORTH FC prepared for a big local derby with Oxley Vale Attunga in Tamworth this Saturday with a controlled 9-nil win over self-destructing Gunnedah Hawks in Gunnedah last Saturday.

Tamworth FC led 3-nil at halftime and then looked on as the Hawks had two players sent off in a second half where they took full advantage.
“The boys shared it around,” Tamworth FC coach Wayne May said.
“We got in the game slowly but I asked them to up the pace in the second half and they did.
“Playing on that big field isn’t easy and we didn’t allow them any extra space.
“We held possession well and we did miss a lot of chances.
“A lot of our goals came in the second half of the second half when they had two sent off.
“Their discipline is ordinary.
“It wasn’t an inspiring game and they didn’t have a reserve grade either. Garry (Sams) said they only had about 14 players.”
May said Travis Beard, who has been playing up front for FC, was his side’s man of the match.
“He’s had to play up there the last two games.
“With his pace and skill on the ball he does cause a lot of problems.
“He helped set up a number of the goals.”
Michael Roberts bagged two goals for FC and the rest were lone strikes from Cameron Potter, Haydon Davidson, Chri Hughes, Andrew James and Kurt Barrow with an own goal thrown in for good measure.
May said this Saturday’s derby against OVA would be much tougher.
“We have to step up a bit,” he said.
“Especially as they (OVA) had a big win at Moree.
“12-1 out there is massive, unbelievable. It’s usually real tough out there.
“But we’re looking forward to this.
“We do have a couple with injuries. We rested Baggie (Ben Davis), Tim Smith and Brent May from the Hawks to be right.
“They should be right.”
Whoever wins Saturday’s clash will go outright top of the Southern Conference.
