8.50am:A CUNNING scam promising $999 in free flights and holidays has reached Tamworth.

After fielding three calls in 24 hours from the scammers, Tamworth solicitor Leonie Hansen decided to go public amid fears some locals might be duped.

8.40AM: 

A fireball lit up the sky on Thursday night, with reports of a "massive shooting star” flooding in from Victoria and New South Wales. 

Callers to talkback radio stations reported seeing a bright object travelling east to north about 9.45pm. Some callers said they initially thought it was a burning plane

8AM: BENDEMEER residents awoke to the news of another building fire in their district yesterday morning. 

At 5am, Tamworth Fire and Rescue NSW crews and Bendemeer Rural Fire Service were called to the old golf clubhouse on Airlie Rd near the village.

7.40am: ANTI-MINING campaigner Jonathan Moylan will front the Supreme Court in Sydney for sentencing today over a hoax email last year that temporarily wiped about $314 million off Whitehaven Coal’s sharemarket value.

The Northern Tablelands forecast from the Bureau of Meteorology: Areas of fog and frost in the south early in the morning. Sunny day. Winds west to southwesterly 20 to 30 km/h becoming light in the morning then becoming westerly 15 to 20 km/h in the middle of the day. Overnight temperatures falling to between minus 4 and 4 above zero with daytime temperatures reaching between 10 and 19.
