Large portions of the film were filmed in Tamworth and Werris Creek, with many in the region now familiar with the story of the Olympic runner who became a World War II veteran, survived more than a month on a raft after his bomber crashed and was taken prisoner by the Japanese and held for two years.
He died last week aged 97 after suffering pneumonia.
Unbroken, directed by Jolie and featuring locations around the north west premieres in December.
