Lance Franklin could not stop the Sydney derby from turning into a fizzer but the Swans restored natural order at the SCG on Saturday night.

A howling gale blew across Sydney but unfortunately for the Giants that was the only destruction coming from the west.

The derby proved a bridge too far for the Giants, who received a timely reminder from the Swans just how far they still have to go to consistently match it with the best.

Revenge came swiftly for the Swans, who posted their 10th consecutive victory, though it was not the bloodbath many had thought it would become in the first half.

Round one was memorable for the apocalyptic weather and the Giants' historic upset but few will want to watch a replay of this game.

The Swans needed only to operate in fits and spurts to get over the line but the Giants were never close enough to make them look into their rearview mirrors with any concern.

The Giants had entered the game off the best month of their short existence but there was a massive gulf in class between the two sides.

The result of this game was beyond doubt before quarter time though the Giants could take some pride in denying the Swans faithful a grisly slaughter.

Not that they would have been overly disappointed as they were given another stellar display from Franklin.

On a night where highlights were few and far between, Franklin continued his red hot form with another high-class performance.

There will be far bigger stages for Franklin to earn his cash but this occasion proved money for jam for a player at the top of his game.

The superstar booted another five goals, taking his tally to 26 in the past six games, and at times appeared to be doing as he pleased.

His repertoire included a contender for the goal of the week. After sharking a tap from Mike Pyke, Franklin put on the afterburners, took a bounce and goaled from 50.

When not kicking them himself, he was setting them up for his teammates. Kurt Tippett was one beneficiary, snapping truly in the second term after receiving a handball from his fellow Bondi millionaire.

Luke Parker had suggested earlier in the week the Swans had been slightly complacent in round one but it was soon apparent they would not make the same mistake twice.

The Swans were four goals up within 25 minutes and the Giants a man down, losing Heath Shaw in a sickening collision which resulted in him being stretchered off the field.

Shaw's absence proved significant, not necessarily to the outcome - few expected lightning to strike twice for the Giants - as much as preventing a blowout.

It proved a good one for Shaw to miss as his teammates in the Giants' defence were being sold up the creek by their midfield, where Kieren Jack, Luke Parker and Josh Kennedy controlled proceedings.

Jack was excellent, particularly in the first half when he collected 22 possessions.

The Giants' pressure was not up to the benchmark they had set in the past month, allowing the Swans to sweep the ball inside their forward 50 with ease.

This proved the perfect ingredient for Franklin to weave his magic, whether it be in the air or at ground level.

The Giants' young forwards were finding life far more difficult at the other end. When the Giants pushed forward, they took their time, allowing the Swans to push numbers back.

Jeremy Cameron was no match for Ted Richards. He did not have a possession until well into the second quarter though did kick two consolation goals.

If there was a play which highlighted the difference in fortunes from round one to here it came from Shane Mumford. Dominant in round one he had little influence on the game. His night was best summed up by a shot at goal which bounced on its end on the goal line allowing Richards to clear. It was that sort of night for the Giants.
