Uralla Shire Council will get $330,000 to improve and seal a section of Barraba Rd 14km west of Bundarra.
Federal MP Barnaby Joyce said the funding would fix three dangerous black spots and was part of the government’s investment of $500 million under the national Black Spot program.
In Tamworth a grant of $46,500 will be used to improve safety from near the Gipps St median strip walkways at Belmore and Denison streets in South Tamworth. Tamworth Regional Council said the works would improve pedestrian safety, by narrowing the distance required to walk across Belmore St and Denison St where they intersect with Gipps St. This would complement the median strip already in place along Gipps St. At the Belmore St intersection, median and kerb blisters will be installed and enhancements carried out to the existing lighting.
At the Denison St intersection, kerb blisters and raised islands with either stop or give-way signs will be installed.
The projects were recommended by a panel of independent road safety experts.
