TAMWORTH South Public proved too good for Ben Venue Public in yesterday’s regional final of the PSSA girls’ knockout with a super six-goal effort in Tamworth.
The South girls led 3-nil at halftime and doubled that score in the second half to win 6-1, with Tayla King completing a hat-trick.
The other goals went to Rebecca Willis, Angel Guy and Sarah Matthews.
“We’re fortunate that we have Rebecca Willis, who is just back from the PSSA nationals,” coach Steve Matthews said.
“And Tayla King played for North West.
“That gives us a strong centre field and we build around that.
“There are girls who have had three years in the open side so they’re coming through.”
Ben Venue created a few more chances as the game progressed and Zoe Davidson took one of those chances to get the Armidale girls on the board.
South beat reigning champions Timbumburi and then Tamworth Public on the way to the regional final and will now meet the winner from the north coast in the next round.
A number of the girls were also members of the South girls’ football team that lost to Tenterfield’s Sir Henry Parkes Public on Thursday and also have a netball regional semi coming up.
