But it also goes a long way to explaining why so many people are so fiercely determined to find a cure.
Yesterday, 250 people in Tamworth put their best foot forward and stepped out for the annual Mother’s Day Classic.
Participants – many wearing tribute cards in recognition of loved ones lost – completed either a 3km or 6km course around the Tamworth Sports Dome.
They joined with more than 125,000 people across the country in raising money to assist with research into breast cancer’s causes and potential cures.
Rural Fit’s Peter Annis-Brown, who together with Pip Benham and a small band of volunteers organised the local event, said it was a great day – despite the threat of rain.
“With the way the weather was, (yesterday morning) the organising committee made a call to do something different and we held the event all indoors, which created a real vibe and a great atmosphere,” he said.
“It was a great event, and the feedback was that it was very well received and everyone participated in the spirit of what an event like this is designed to do.”
