The couple shopped at the local Moree Mitre 10 store to pick up paint and other renovation products as part of their visit and automatically went into a retail raffle across three of the district’s Mitre 10 stores.
A kayak, billy cart, cubby house, barbecue and an outdoor setting were just a few of the prizes Mr and Mrs Shields were the lucky recipients of when Moree office manager Mareia Cowper gave them the good news.
“They just wouldn’t believe us,” Ms Cowper said.
“We had to reassure them we were being serious several times before they finally acknowledged we were being serious. It’s fantastic news.”
Mr Shields said he’d “supposedly won the Lotto plenty of times,” but he found the hardware hit initially difficult to believe.
The two spent $200 and ultimately won the jackpot.
Mrs Shields said she had already decided where her outdoor setting was going to be placed.
“It’s going on the verandah so we can watch our dorpers and alpacas run around,” she said.
“The wheelbarrow will be useful too because Brodie reversed over our old one last week so someone was looking after us.
“The little table will be good for the grandkids and they’ll love the billy cart.”
