Operation Go Slow kicked into gear at 12.01 this morning meaning drivers must be on their best behaviour or risk losing their licence.
The operation is aimed at ensuring everyone gets to their destination safely this Anzac Day long weekend.
“We intend to come down hard on those who speed, drink and drug drive, and don’t wear seatbelts. On top of this officers will be on the lookout for fatigued drivers,” Barwon Superintendent Gelina Talbot said.
Police are pulling out all the stops with dozens of cars preparing to hit the roads in a high visibility blitz as the school holidays draw to a close.
Double demerits are in force for speeding and seatbelt offences.
“Police will be taking all measures to ensure motorists arrive at their intended destinations safely and will not be accepting any excuses from motorists who choose to break the law,” Superintendent Talbot said.
And be warned – it’s not just the main roads where you’ll see the blue and white.
“Police will not be restricted to the highways, patrols of back roads across the Command are included right across the long weekend,” she said.
Operation Go Slow and double demerits wrap up at midnight on Sunday.
