Tributes are flowing for Chelsea James, the Wallsend girl who forged a unique relationship with international star Beyonce during her battle with cancer.
A post on Chelsea's mother Donna's Facebook account about midnight on Monday paid tribute to her daughter's strength and confirmed the sombre news.
"RIP my baby girl," the post said.
"You can rest, love u always mummy."
The statement drew an outpouring of emotion from hundreds, who lent their support to Ms James and her family as they came to grips with their loss.
"She was a special little girl who has taught us all how to be brave," Belinda Magill wrote.
"Her smile could melt any heart."
The Newcastle Herald reported in November that Chelsea, 15 and living with cancer, reunited with the international superstar four years after they first met.
At that meeting, Chelsea joined Beyonce onstage as the star serenaded her with hit Halo.
"Last time Beyonce sang to me on stage," Chelsea said at the time.
"But this time, thanks to Camp Quality, I actually got to meet her back stage and talk to her and laugh with her, which was so cool."
"I'll never forget this."
