About 1:45pm, Monday, an 81-year-old man was in the backyard of his house on Boland Drive when he was confronted by two men who demanded his wallet.
When the man told them he did not have his wallet on him, one of the men walked into the house through the back door.
He tried to stop them when he was struck on the arm and face with a metal bar.
The men then stole his wallet and car keys before running out of the house. They were last seen running in a westerly direction along Jones Avenue.
Police and paramedics were called to the scene and the elderly man was taken to Moree Hospital for treatment of arm and facial injuries.
Detectives are continuing investigations into the incident and are looking for two males who are described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance and aged in their late teens.
