Go For Gold committee chairman Nick Bradford said Saturday attracted crowds of up to 9000 to the small town, and yesterday saw similar numbers head to the former gold-rush town.

“Numbers were certainly up on last year. We had around 8000 last year. Sunday was an earlier start than last year, too, and the weather gods have been so kind to us – it’s been absolutely brilliant,” he said.

The festival offered something for everyone, with a focus on families.

From dancing lions and a dragon to magic shows and folk and Cajun music, Nundle had it all for the Easter crowds.

“The lion dance and the drums, they just love it, because it’s such a great show,” Mr Bradford said.

“Most stallholders are absolutely delighted and are up on last year, or did the same amount of business on Saturday this year as what they did over two days last year. One of the stallholders said it was the best festival that he’s ever been to.”

Mr Bradford said it was important that not only the visitors but also the stallholders had a good time, so they came back again next year.

He said local businesses had also enjoyed the extra activity, with sales up from last year.

The Nundle Woollen Mill had its biggest Easter Saturday ever, and Odgers and McClelland Exchange Stores also enjoyed increased business.

Mr Bradford said he expected business to boom in the town for the next week or more, with the Anzac Day long weekend coming up coinciding with school holidays.

“I’d imagine Nundle is setting itself up for very busy trading,” he said.

“The streets are packed.”

It’s been a positive few months for Nundle, after being named the tidiest town in NSW late last year and winning the national Community Action and Partnerships Award and a highly commended honour for Heritage and Culture.
