The Bears beat West Lions 22-8 in the Wests KO final last Sunday and match up against the Lions in the opening match of the new Group 4 season today.
While the Bears took control of the second half last Sunday at Scully Park they tackle the Lions on home soil at Jack Woolaston Oval today.
Meanwhile Gunnedah Bulldogs, with the addition of their three English imports, host new club Oxley Diggers in their G4 debut at Kitchener Park on Sunday while there is a big local derby at Collins Park, Narrabri where the Wee Waa Panthers come calling to rumble with the Narrabri Blues.
The Group 4 Second Division Shield continues its new season with three games this Saturday.
Werris Creek and Manilla had first round byes and match up at David Taylor Park, Werris Creek, Dungowan Cowboys, beaten in the Second Division KO final by Baraba 22-20 on Sunday, play Bendemeer at Tamworth Rugby Park on Thursday night and Walcha Kangaroos are at home to the Boggabri Kangaroos.
Kootingal and Barraba have the bye
