The brave youngster will have her long golden locks chopped off at the nape of her neck on May 1 before donating it to charity to be made into a wig.

D-day has been a long time coming though, with Ella first professing her desire to lop off her shiny mane more than two years ago, but mum Belinda held off, wanting her daughter to wait until she was a “bit older and definitely sure”.

“We watched a little girl (getting her hair cut off) on the news together and she said she wanted to do it and I said ‘oh that’s so nice, let’s see how you feel in a little while’,” Mrs Clout said.

“I’m so proud of her. She hasn’t gone probably more than three or four months over that period where she hasn’t gone ‘can I do it now?’.”

Ella’s hair will be donated to the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program whose mission is to provide free, real hair wigs to woman who have lost their hair through treatment.

The spirited Year 5 Tamworth South Public School student is also raising money for the Starlight Foundation after spending time at John Hunter Hospital last year following a horse riding accident.

“When I was in hospital I went up (to the Starlight room) quite a bit and learned how much of a difference they made to all of the children there,” Ella said.

“I think that they can do with a bit more  money.”
