This is encouraging news for those Westdale residents who would rather live in peace and quiet.
It will give opponents of the venture time to generate debate and hopefully receive answers regarding their concerns.
I reiterate that my concerns are that a new parallel runway will bring more and bigger aircraft, such as fighter jets.
My concerns are further realised because it is apparent through media reports that there is considerable desperation to secure the tender.
This may prevent negotiation regarding such things as volume of noise, flight paths and curfews.
I am also concerned regarding council’s preparedness to borrow.
This could lead to a further increase in rates, particularly at a time when the public are overburdened with the increased pressure of bills.
Federal Defence Minister David Johnson was correct when he said in The Leader: “It would be inappropriate for the Commonwealth to provide financial support to potential tenderers.”
Indeed, is it ethically correct for local and state governments to support a private tender?
