The grisly find was confirmed by police on Saturday to be human remains. The Gympie Times reported a skull was discovered by forestry workers. Wide Bay Burnett Detective Inspector Bruce McNab could not confirm nor deny the information, but did say the remains were not that of an entire body.

The discovery was made by Toolara Forestry workers about 8am on Thursday during a maintenance clearing operation in a section of pine plantation about 1km off the Cooloola Coast Rd.

Detective Inspector McNab said the remains were on the ground and looked to have been there for some time, but could not say how old they were.
