All the CNSW coaching programs have been re-structured, McClelland said.
He is the youth program manager for Cricket NSW and, as such, oversees the development of the juniors and the game from Under 13 to under 19 level.
He is also the State Under 19 coach.
CNSW’s youth programs include all major centres in city and country NSW, McClelland said.
He is touring the state ensuring all eight zones are following the new restructure and helping the coaches ensure the juniors are receiving the best coaching and development possible.
“We made the restructure this year and made some changes,” McClelland said.
While there are some talented juniors in the system there are some good coaches as well and Central North Zone is well situated with the likes of Rod Bryant, Singleton’s Barry Smith, Narrabri’s Tony Meppem, Gunnedah’s Kel Walls and Inverell’s Graham Kent.
Bryant is the CNZ coach and, as such, is in charge of the CNSW Academy Central North.
There were 20 juniors in that Central North Academy last season but Bryant hopes to have around 50 for the next season.
He’s hoping also to prepare the CNZ juniors for jumps into Country and state squads.
“We did pretty well last season,” Bryant said.
“We’re hoping to produce NSW and Australian players. Mick (McClelland) will be up here again on April 22 for a trial.
“We’ll have about 50 from the zone as well as a few Northern Inland kids at Farrer for that.”
