A MEAT synonymous with Walcha – lamb – has helped two of the town’s other famous exports survive another week on hit reality TV cooking show My Kitchen Rules.
Mum-and-daughter cooking combo Cathy and Anna Lisle crossed knives with Melbourne twins Helena and Vikki in a dramatic cook-off on Sunday night’s episode.
The twins, blissfully unaware of Walcha’s rich lamb history, chose the popular meat as the battleground for the cook-off.
In just 30 minutes, Cathy and Anna whipped up a roasted lamb rack with sautéed eggplant, olive tapenade and basil pesto.
Judges salivated over the dish, which edged out Helena and Vikki’s za’atar-crusted lamb with roasted beetroot salad and goat’s cheese and yoghurt sauce. “You thought that your lamb looked a little rare maybe, but your lamb today was cooked to perfection,” judge Manu Feildel said.
“It was tender and it was melting in the mouth; it was just beautiful.”
Co-judge Pete Evans described it as a “sensational dish”.
In last night’s episode, Carly and Tresne exited, leaving just six couples in the competition.
