Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a house fire and theft of firearms at Watsons Creek, just north of Tamworth.

About 8.45pm, Tuesday, the owner of a property on Old Farm Road received a call from his neighbour informing him his house was well alight. The owner last secured the home about 3pm on Wednesday March 18.
The Rural Fire Service attended and extinguished the blaze, however the property was totally destroyed.
The following morning, police attended the scene with the owner and it was noticed several cans of diesel fuel were missing from a nearby shed.
The owner also informed police that it appears a gun cabinet was missing from the house. The cabinet contained a Ruger 308 centre fire rifle, a Lanber double barrel 12 gauge shotgun and an amount of ammunition.
Police are treating the fire as suspicious and inquiries are continuing.
