Jason Craig Rigby, 36, fronted Moree Local Court yesterday on a string of serious charges after he was arrested on Monday night.
The charges arose after Barwon police were conducting patrols of bushland near Boggabilla about 5pm on Monday.
Officers spotted a car travelling on a track in the scrub and stopped the car to speak to Rigby and a 14-year-old girl.
The girl was taken by police to safety at the Boggabilla Police Station where officers made a number of inquiries.
After a short investigation, police arrested the man at a Boggabilla home before he was interviewed and charged with eight counts of aggravated sexual assault with a child under 16.
Police will allege Rigby sexually assaulted the girl several times.
He was refused bail by police prior to yesterday’s appearance in Moree Local Court. Magistrate Michael Holmes refused Rigby bail and ordered he remain in custody until the case returns to court in April.
