Black belt academy celebrates tournament success

CHAFFEY’S Black Belt Academy members picked up a number of first placings at the IMAT North Coast Challenge held earlier this month.

Scott Cohen had a particularly successful tournament placing first in the 18-39yrs male/female coloured belts kata, the male point sparring and male contact sparring.

Harry and Archie Gavin also sparred well with Harry winning his 8-9yrs point sparring and continuous sparring and Archie the 6-7yrs for the same disciplines. Jane Cohen also returned with a couple of trophies.

She finished first in the 18-39yrs female coloured belts point sparring and second behind Scott in the male/female coloured belts kata.

Chaffey’s results saw them take out second place in the points score. The following weekend Caitlin Brooker competed in the AMAC Coffs Harbour Regional Round 1 tournament.

She continued the club’s success winning the 8-10yrs kata beginner/intermediate division and placing third in the continuous sparring all grades.
