The reminder comes after Tamworth Regional Council launched its Cover Your Load campaign on Thursday in a bid to reduce unsightly roadside litter.
TRC manager environment and health Ross Briggs said council rangers will be on the look out for motorists taking uncovered loads of rubbish to the region’s waste management facilities, and if caught, a fine may be imposed.
“In recent months there has been an increase in litter being strewn alongside Forest Rd and the source is uncovered loads being taken to the waste facility for disposal,” he said.
“Dust, soil and litter that spills from uncovered loads can wash into storm water drains and pollute waterways as well as create an eyesore.”
The fine applies to individual residents as well as business and commercial operators.
“The only exception is when the waste being transported completely comprises either tyres or scrap metal,” Mr Briggs said.
