The best bakers from the CWA’s Wanthella group – made up of 10 branches from across the local area – gathered for a cake cook-off that will take the winners all the way to the CWA state conference in Griffith in May.
Sponges, fruit cakes, puddings and lumberjack cakes were among the baked delights, all coming under the watchful eye of judges Morna Wilson, from near Sydney, and Barbara Reichert, of Gloucester, who were impressed by the standard of the competition.
Just under half of the branches’ 200 members were in attendance on Friday, with winners announced across more than 20 categories.
They will now need to get in some serious practice in the lead-up to the May conference, when they will go up against category winners from 29 other groups across the state.
