The multi-branded long-term Tamworth car dealer sold its first Nissan vehicle back in 1991 – and nearly a quarter century down the track and thousands of cars later it’s still a firm friend of the bloke on the land and the guy in the street.
The dealer will donate $100 from every new Nissan sold until the end of birthday celebrations in March towards a special drought campaign for the NSW Farmers Bush Appeal.
Fossey’s sales manager Phebe Urquhart says the drought donation is a practical way of paying heed to the importance of their farm friends when it comes to history and business.
Ms Urquhart says she knows from first-hand experience the impact the big dry has had.
“I’m a grazier myself and I’m experiencing the effects of the drought with the shortage of feed and water,” she said.
“The drought is affecting everyone, especially the farmers, so if we can give back to the community in this truly difficult time we feel we are doing our part.”
Ms Urquhart said dry conditions over the past 18 months over much of the region had had an impact – not just on the farming community.
“Everybody is talking about the drought, whether it’s retailers down the street or car dealers,” she said.
“We all have clients who have been touched by the drought and over the past four to six months that’s really started to hit home, many retailers and other businesses are holding their own, but some of them are also feeling the pinch.”
Ms Urquhart said the two-year dry across the north, the fact half the state was in drought, and the new emergency measures for drought stricken farmers, had been another prompt for the dealership to throw its weight behind the drought appeal.
To coincide with Nissan’s 80th anniversary, JT Fossey is also holding a three day sale ending Saturday, and other celebrations including a barbecue brekkie.
The Nissan anniversary will also show off the pride of the fleet, from the small Micra up to the latest big “yank tank” Nissan Patrol. JT Fossey encourages wider donations to the NSW Farmers Bush Appeal at www.nswfarmers.org.au even if you can’t share their birthday bonanza.
