The Cessnock jockey had won twice on the program before he jumped aboard Tableaux in the Newmarket.
A win in the Thunderbolt on the John Ramsey-trained Unknown Destiny was followed by a win with the Todd Howlett-trained The Rundown.
Then followed Tableaux, Thompson’s 3989th winner.
Tableaux had returned from a spell with a good second to Floral Insight at Grafton on February 28.
Lightly raced, with two wins from 15 prior to yesterday, the son of Lonhro showed he is a sprinter on the way up.
“We’ll have to keep Toddy at home more often,” Robert Thompson joked after unsaddling.
Trainer Todd Howlett was suffering with a bad dose of influenza and unable to make yesterday’s meeting but was bucked up by his winning double.
“Todd does a great job,” Robert Thompson added.
“All his horses look great.”
Thompson says Tableaux is a horse on the way up.
“He’s come back stronger and thickened up,” he said.
