Rex Guesthouse owner Jody Ekert moved to Tamworth from Earlwood in Sydney with her son, Elliott, and two dogs Emma and Butch in September when she bought the accommodation house.
To meet new people, Ms Ekert and Elliot got involved in the New Residents’ Network, which is hosted by the Tamworth Business Chamber, and went on a bus trip to Nundle.
She said they met other families with children and got to know more people, who they now see around the city.
“It was my first time out of the house since we’d been here. I was renovating, so I hadn’t left the house much,” she said.
Ms Ekert said she thought it would be a good opportunity to have a look around the region.
“There was a mix of people, some with kids, some couples and some older people,” she said.
“At least we know someone around town.”
Ms Ekert said they moved to Tamworth because Elliott would start school next year and wanted a good town for him.
The mother and son will attend the next New Residents’ Network event on March 26 at Tamworth Tenpin, with everyone welcome.
