Police say the 50-year-old man was riding his motorcycle on the Oxley Highway when it collided with a wallaby shortly after 9pm on Monday.

Emergency services were called to the scene and the man was taken to Tamworth hospital with severe injuries.

He was later transferred to John Hunter Hospital.

Crime scene police attended the scene and the incident is still under investigation.
