In 1984, the OVA junior and senior teams combined to form the club that came so close to winning last year’s final and have featured in the previous six.
Tamworth FC beat them in the final 1-nil last year, and also won the year before, although the Mushies were on top before that.
In fact, out of the past six finals they have won three premierships, as well as a raft of local and junior finals.
This year, OVA will be fielding firsts and reserve grade PL sides, three local opens sides, a ladies’ side, as well as all junior sides from ages six to 16.
Club secretary Mark Makepeace said they were already on their way to the 2014 finals under new coach Tim Coates.
“They are training the house down already and Tim (Coates) is taking their game in a new direction,” Makepeace said.
“I don’t want to say too much but he is changing the playing approach and formation a bit.”
The club will host a Thirtieth Anniversary ball sometime during the year, with a date still to be announced.
Once again, OVA will be doing a raft of fundraising for the Beyond Blue organisation, including a Blue home game.
The club does this every year in memory of former reserve grade captain Steve James.
“We are a very proud and supportive club,” Makepeace said. “And we are always on the lookout for new players of any age and skill level.
“It is going to be a very exciting season for the club.”
The club’s sponsorship by the Tamworth Golf Club will continue this year, with plenty of post-game functions and nights throughout the year.
Following a sign-on day held at Shoppingworld on Saturday, numbers are looking healthy for season 2014, with a lot of returning players as well as new faces.
The Mushrooms will be accepting registrations up until the season starts and are looking for players of all ages and skill levels, boys and girls.
