The local pairing carded a very good +12 to finish six shots clear of the father and son combination of Bill and Lachie Fletcher.
It was a real family affair, with Quirindi father and son Guy and Knox Fisher the best off scratch with +2 ahead of club champion Tim Stackman and his father Victor Coulter on -3.
Club captain Will Brennan said it was a really good day, and he was really happy with the turnout. 98 golfers teed off, which was around 20 up on the last couple of years.
They came from around the region, including Quirindi, Barraba, Manilla, Nundle, the Longyard, Tamworth, Uralla, Armidale and Bendemeer.
Fortunately too, the rain cleared and and conditions couldn’t have been much better, Brennan said.
He said Cross and Sweeney’s +12 was a good score with the way the course was running.
“The course was playing pretty hard,” he said.
There was a bit of grass and wasn’t a lot of run.
