They’ve been supplementing their regular sessions at the pool by training in the Peel River.

“We’ve had two sessions at the river,” coach Ian Moxon said.

The idea is to give them a bit more width to train in.

“We can’t get pool space,” Moxon said.

They can get the pool time, but are limited in the space they can use.

“You’ve got to train in the width,” Moxon said.

So they’ve been heading down to the river.

That’s been good to also add a bit of variety to their training, he said.

They’ve been doing a bit of an iron-man type thing.

They also train at the pool in half the pool twice a week – at City on Sundays and Scully Park Thursday mornings. 

“They’re developing along,” Moxon said.

“The boys are getting keen. They’re getting excited now it’s getting closer.”

The state championships will be first. They’re in Wagga Wagga from April 4-6.

They’ve got to be up in Brisbane for the national club championships two days later.

“We’re madly raising funds,” Moxon said.

It will cost about $15,000 to send them to both venues.

“We’ve had fantastic support,” Moxon said.

Davidson Bros Electrical, Edwards and Proud Builders and David Newberry-Financial Wisdom have all put their hands up to help out.

They also had a garage sale last Saturday, which was well-supported and raised a bit of money.

They’ve also got a signed 2014 Bulldogs jersey which they are raffling off.

“We’re going around the place and selling tickets,” Moxon said.

They were at the NRL trial the other weekend and will be out at the Longyard on Friday nights selling tickets.
