Armidale gardener Peter Love can assure you of one thing – it’s the best tasting tomato you will ever eat.
The bulging beauty was plucked straight from his veggie patch, and it’s no freak fruit – he grows dozens of them every year.
“I don’t use any chemicals at all; they are completely organic. All I do is keep the water up to them,” Mr Love said.
The 1.1kg monster even dwarfs the winning entry in January’s National Tomato Contest in Gunnedah, which weighed in at a measly 0.998kg.
Mr Love has been growing this variety of tomato for 15 years and says his secret weapons are cow manure and lots of water.
And no, he didn’t trade a cow for the “magic beans”, he received the seeds from his brother in Walcha.
“I don’t remember the name of the variety; we just call them Old Time variety,” Mr Love said.
