A BLIND DATE WITH A TWIST: At the city library
THE most romantic day of the year will provide the backdrop for Tamworth couple Rebecca Simpson and Adam Essery’s big day today.
Miss Simpson said they had not specifically chosen Valentine’s Day for their wedding, but wanted a Friday wedding in February and it happened to fall on February 14.
She said they chose February because it normally started to get cooler, which wasn’t the case this year.
The famous day may have perks for the couple, though.
“Because Adam is not very romantic, it was one way for him to remember our anniversary, because people would be talking about Valentine’s Day,” Miss Simpson said.
The couple met through mutual friends at Hog’s Breath Cafe nearly three years ago. Mr Essery proposed on one knee at Town Beach at Port Macquarie on March 29 last year.
“I thought he was going to do it. And I love the beach,” Miss Simpson said.
For 31-year-old Miss Simpson and 32-year-old Mr Essery the day will be filled with family and friends at the Tamworth Jockey Club.
They said it hadn’t been stressful organising the wedding, doing much of the work themselves.
Last night they readied themselves for the big day with a quiet night apart – Mr Essery spent it with his aunt and uncle, and Miss Simpson enjoyed the evening with her girlfriends and chocolate at Sanctuary Inn.
Miss Simpson and Mr Essery said they believed honesty and communication were the secret to a happy and long marriage.
