The GNA Cubs and Tigers teams will tackle Newcastle Knights teams in Cessnock next weekend and, after last weekend’s training camp at Jack Woolaston Oval, the GNA teams are refining their moves for next weekend’s trial games.
GNA coach Peter Stevens said Sunday’s session would concentrate on “individual stuff”.
“We will be more focused on the individuals,” Stevens said.
He said the GNA Cubs (15-16s) and Tigers (16-17s) would play the Knights Under 15 and 17 squads.
“They will play us and then the Western Suburbs sides,” he added.
“We see some familiar faces too. Zack Leonard (Werris Creek) and Rohan Pottinger (Muswellbrook) were both in our academy last year and are now with the Knights.
“Denman’s Isaac Richards is also down there.
“It just shows what opportunities there are for the boys these days.”
While the GNA teams play the Knights’ development teams next weekend, they also have trial games against the Northern Rivers and North Coast academies on February 22.
That is the same day as the NRL trial at Scully Park between Newcastle and Canberra.
GNA manager Scott Bone said the GNA would play North Coast at Jack Woolaston Oval that Saturday and could also play Northern Rivers at Scully Park as a curtainraiser to the NRL trial if asked.
He said no official contact or request had been forthcoming from NRL trial officials.
