The 40 or so talented young rugby league players sweltered in the morning heat yesterday as their coaches ran through drills for around three hours to be ready for some big trial games against the Newcastle Knights’ development sides.
The Cubs (15-16s) and Tigers (16-17s) started at 10am and finished up around 1.30pm with plenty of drinks breaks in between.
“We go to Cessnock on Saturday, February 15,” head coach Peter Stevens said.
“We play the two Knights development sides down there.
“The Cubs play the Knights Chargers, their Under 15s.
“They are getting ready to play Harold Mathews Cup and the Tigers play the Knights Under 17s who are preparing for the SG Ball Cup.
“We had a good day down at Werris Creek last week.
“It was hot but we got a lot out of the boys.
“We hope to do the same thing today.”
