On Friday, stablemate Gelsomina made an impressive debut when she won the Corey’s Catering Maiden Plate (1000m) in a slick 57.72secs for trainer Leon Davies.
Her half brother, Twin Zero, then started at the Gold Coast on Saturday in the $13,000 Solar PV Modules Benchmark 80 Handicap (1400m) but had to settle for fourth.
Today, Crooked Blaze turns out in the Happy Chinese New Year Maiden Plate (1000m) for Davies.
Andrew Gibbons, who rode Gelsomina on Friday, has the ride on the gelding and they jump from barrier eight.
Crooked Blaze has had just the one start, finishing unplaced (9th) but beaten just 4.5 lengths by Unemcumbered in a Randwick 2YO on October 12.
The son of Ad Valorem was quoted a 4-1 third favourite yesterday, a point above co-favourites She Has The Moves and Moonlight Nova.
Davies isn’t the only HNWRA trainer in Grafton today.
Four Armidale trainers – Stafford Wain, Paul Grills, Sandra McCormack and Justin Blanch – all have runners.
Wain, Grills and McCormack all have a runner in the fourth race, Wain starting Suyama (3), Grills with Kingston Time and McCormack running Silver Trump.
Justin Blanch also starts Rocktheline in race six with Geoff Snowden to ride.
Snowden won aboard Paul Grills’s Dusty’s Felt at last week’s Grafton meeting.
Wain completes the day when he sends Latitat around in the last race with Gunnedah apprentice Sue Bigg aboard.
They drew seven.
Bigg also jumps Suyana from barrier three earlier in the day for Wain.
