Amy Jennifer is only 13 years old but the Adelaide singer is already turning heads with her soulful sounds.
It is the second year she has made the mammoth journey up the Mallee Highway to busk at the Country Music Capital, after nagging her mum, Kelly, “all the time, non-stop” to bring her back.
“The atmosphere of Tamworth is amazing and country music is all I want to do,” she said. “I want to be on the stage singing.”
The teenager returned to Tamworth to hone her skills and to watch one of her Aussie idols, Beccy Cole, in concert.
She said her love for country music began when she discovered American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift and just like the superstar, the self-taught singer has recently added an instrument to her repertoire – the guitar – which she appears to be taking to like a duck to water.
“My brother used to play guitar and I wanted to be better than him at it,” she said. “Once I started, I feel in love with it.”
She plans to travel to Nashville, Tennessee at the end of the year.
