She’s got a busy country music festival, with appearances at Toyota FanZone and six gigs throughout the event.
Audiences at the launch at the South Tamworth Bowling Club will get a sneak peek of the EP, which is released on Thursday.
“I’ve been working on it since May on every weekend available,” she said. “They’re all my songs, five tracks. It’s very much Miranda Lambert crossed with Shane Nicholson. I was listening to a lot of that music when I was writing and I think that shows. The songs come from a cross-section of my own experiences and watching what other people have been through.”
The young artist said the reaction had been “really, really good” so far, including a pre-order from Norway.
“Everything has been positive – much better than I could have expected,” she said. “I’m hoping everyone really, really enjoys it. It would be fantastic if they could relate and get something out of the messages in the music. There are two songs about empowerment and looking forward on the positive side.”
Katrina said her move to Melbourne two years ago had opened up her music to a different audience.
“There is more country music down here than I first thought, and it’s good with getting new artists out there,” she said. “I’m just loving it.”
She said it was special returning to the festival in her former hometown with a new EP under her arm.
“I’m enjoying catching up with people I haven’t seen for a while,” she said. “I haven’t had much of a visit in the last two years since I left, so it’s good to be back.”
Catch Katrina on Wednesday night at the South Tamworth Bowling Club.
