Councillors at the December 10 ordinary meeting endorsed a recommendation to meet on January 14 specifically to consider tenders for the construction of the Tamworth Regional Youth Centre.
The new centre, to be built in Centenary Park at Coledale, is the major piece of infrastructure for the NOW Initiative and is expected to be completed by November.
A notice of motion from councillor James Treloar about water pricing in the Peel Valley is among other items to be considered at tomorrow night’s extraordinary meeting, which will be held at 6.30pm on level four of Ray Walsh House in Peel St.
The council received a $10.68 million federal government grant for the NOW Initiative, which involves a range of improvements to the streetscape, roads and built environment of Coledale, as well as the creation of 58 new blocks for affordable housing and the construction of the youth centre.
The youth centre will be a one-stop shop, with a range of services working in partnership to improve educational, health and recreational opportunities for local youth.
