Allana Carrick said she just wanted to put a smile on people’s faces when she volunteered her time at Bupa Nursing Home in Tamworth.
There was no pressuring this one, in fact she said the idea her own.
“It’s just fun to see them smiling when people help them,” she said.
“I talked to them, I helped them play crossword puzzles ... just to put a smile on their to face to make them happy instead of lonely.”
The Oxley Vale Public student helped to clean walking frames, fed residents, as well as helped them out of bed. But her mother, Melinda Carrick, said this was no chore for her daughter.
“She just loves the old people,” she said.
“She just loves spending time with the old people here, she makes them smile.”
And while it was not the first time she volunteered, Allana promises it won’t be the last.
