Carers NSW hosted a carers’ masterclass in the city last Wednesday, with about 50 people – some travelling for up to an hour – attending.
It was designed to provide them with a day to focus on looking after themselves.
Tamworth Powerhouse executive chef Ben Davies was the star attraction, cooking up a storm and sharing tips for nutritious, tasty and easy meals, and fielding plenty of questions along the way.
Health checks and information stands were another part of the day.
Carers NSW chief executive officer Elena Katrakis said carers often put their own needs last.
“It is important for carers to keep healthy and make their own wellbeing a priority. Caring can be both rewarding and demanding, so taking time out to take care of yourself is one of the most important things you can do,” she said.
It was also a great chance for carers to meet others in the same position, addressing the isolation many can feel.
