Licensees have welcomed this weekend’s Operation Unite – an Australia-wide crackdown on alcohol-related crime – as the Christmas party season hits full throttle.
Local police will hit the beat to target anti-social behaviour and drink driving and ensure revellers are playing by the rules.
Oxley police Inspector Paul Johnson said police would also be conducting licensing and traffic enforcement as part of the operation.
“The operation will run between 6am and 6pm both nights,” he said.
“We’re hoping to have a pretty positive impact for the community’s sake.”
Police are urging locals to monitor their alcohol intake to avoid any trouble.
“My advice to the community is, if you’re going out then behave accordingly, if you cross the line I’m sure there will be police there to meet you,” Inspector Johnson said.
“Whilst you may not see them, you can be guaranteed they will be around.”
