Offenders hit four homes stealing phones, laptops and cash that were in sight before taking off with five cars to get to the next job.
Some of the homes targeted were in Penlee Rd, Calala – where two attempts were unsuccessful – before thieves made off with a Holden ute that was later recovered.
Mountview Cr recorded one break-in as well as the Lifestyle Village in West Tamworth, where offenders forced entry and grabbed a number of items before stealing a Mitsubishi Lancer which was later abandoned in Southview St.
A Toyota Rav 4 taken from a Noonga St home was also recovered, while a Ford Falcon stolen from outside a Semillon Dr, Windmill Hill home was recovered after a brief police pursuit.
Police initiated the chase through West and South Tamworth but officers lost sight when the car was driven over a gutter and onto parkland.
Acting Inspector Joshua McKenzie said police were looking into several possible leads.
“There were a number overnight [Sunday] believed to be related,” he said.
“Police are following a few lines of inquiry.”
The latest spate has prompted calls for residents to be vigilant and to ensure doors and windows were locked.
“Be conscious of security, even if you’re in an area you believe is relatively safe,” Acting Inspector McKenzie said.
“This group has shown themselves to be mobile.”
Anyone who witnessed any of the break-and-enters or has any information on the identity of the offenders is urged to contact Tamworth police or Crime Stoppers.
