TAMWORTH Jockey Club (TJC) will be transformed into a sea of frocks, fillies and fascinators today for the city’s annual Melbourne Cup meeting.
Billed as one of Tamworth’s fashion events of the year, the on-track action will play second fiddle to the sartorial stakes, with fashions on the field and The Leader’s own Hot 50 competition among the style highlights.
“It’s one of those days on our calendar where Tamworth takes the time to dress up,” TJC president Tim Coates said. “It really is a local institution and we’re looking forward to a fantastic day.”
Close to 5000 people are expected trackside for the five-event card, with the first race set to go just after 1.30pm.
A flawless day is forecast with a top temperature of 27 degrees.
Fashions on the field will feature four categories and boasts close to $4500 worth of prizes.
